Back to school

A newly erected row of container-like
classrooms for the A-level program
in Ipoh International school
The classrooms are a temporary
measure as the whole school will be
relocated in 2 years time

When i retired in January 1999, i felt a sense of relief, relief from the daily routine of getting up early and arriving at the school on time and the plentiful serve-no-actual-purpose paper works and the worst of the whole lot, attending stereotype meetings which is the worst of all unproductive red-tapes in most schools. I have not been totally into my retirement though, doing some teaching in a private institution but the difference is immense as i am almost my own boss in determining all that i do from teaching hours to teaching scheme. However, due to my liking for teaching, i do miss some fun and joy i experienced when dealing and mixing with students in and out of the class rooms in formal institution.

A few months back, an opportunity to go back to the old routine came along. The Ipoh International school is starting the A-level program this year and i was offered a part-time tutor post. I accepted the offer with the condition that i do not have to do those paper works which i dislike.

Started work this week. There is only one small class of 10 pupils but a good bunch of obedient, conscientious and intelligent pupils. I go to the school whenever my lesson is on and that means i go there only for one and a half hours every Monday to Thursday. One week has passed and i am so into my new routine that i felt something amiss this morning when i did not have to go to the school.

The classroom where i teach, small
but conducive
